Resources for those impacted by the CDC/Emory Point Shooting on August 8th, 2025

In the wake of the heartbreaking events at the Centers for Disease Control and Emory Point—where Officer David Rose was killed in the line of duty—our community mourns together. We extend our deepest condolences to Officer Rose’s family, colleagues, and all those impacted by this senseless act of violence including at the CDC, CVS, Emory Point, the Clifton School, and Emory University/ Emory Hospital. To support healing and recovery, the following local, state, and national resources are available to anyone impacted:

 

Victim Advocacy and Support

DeKalb County District Attorney's Office- Victim Services

Victim advocacy is a primary focus and commitment for District Attorney Sherry Boston. Victim Services offers guidance, support, information and crisis counseling to victims of crime throughout the criminal justice process. Victim advocates make referrals to community resources and provide notification of a variety of court proceedings. Advocates also ensure that crime victims understand their rights as outlined in the Crime Victims Bill of Rights and assist with obtaining appropriate restitution and compensation through the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, when applicable.

 

Crime Victims Advocacy Council (CVAC)

CVAC is a non-denominational Christian based organization who assists crime victim/survivors. They offer free support groups, individual support and spiritual care/pastoral counseling, information about victims’ rights and assistance with filing victim compensation claims and victim impact statements.

 

Criminal Justice Coordinating Council Georgia Crime Victims Compensation Program

The Georgia Crime Victims Compensation Program (Victims Comp) assists eligible crime victims with out of pocket expenses and loss of income or support as a result of the victimization.

 

Raksha, Inc.

Raksha, meaning protection, is a local Georgia non-profit dedicated to healing, empowerment, and justice for South Asian American survivors of violence. Through support, education, and advocacy, they uplift the community while ensuring survivors receive the care and justice they deserve.

Victim Connect is an OVC-funded service that offers confidential assistance to victims of crime. Disaster Distress Helpline

Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Disaster Distress Helpline is a national hotline dedicated to year-round disaster crisis counseling.This 24/7 toll free, multilingual, crisis support service is available to residents in the United States and its territories experiencing emotional distress related to natural or human-caused disasters. 

 

988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline

24/7 hotline for people in crisis, including people experiencing challenging reactions to disasters or mass violence. Support is available in English or Spanish.

 

Georgia Crisis & Access Line (GCAL)

Statewide 24/7 mental health crisis support for Georgians.

Counseling

Chris 180

CHRIS 180 helps children, adults and families who have experienced trauma through counseling, substance abuse prevention, school-based services, early childhood mental health, foster care and adoptions, and housing programs. They offer a sliding fee scale and accept several insurances for services. They offer in person and virtual appointments. 

 

Families First 

Families First provides individual therapy, family and couples therapy, and group therapy to children and adults in the metro Atlanta area.

 

Grady Trauma Recovery Center

Grady's Trauma Recovery Center's goal is to provide trauma-informed services to underserved child and adult survivors of violence, combining assertive outreach, clinical case management, and trauma-informed therapy to deal with interpersonal violence's emotional wounds. Individuals can receive services through telehealth, in-home/community visits, and in-person at Grady. Insurance is not required to participate. This program is a free program pending eligibility requirements are met. Services include:

  • Trauma informed Individual and group psychotherapy
  • Assistance with finding emergency, safe housing
  • Case management and assertive outreach
  • Access to primary medical care
  • Legal and financial assistance and advocacy
  • Medication management and support
  • Education and emphasis on Self-care

Jewish Family & Career Services

Jewish Family & Career Services is dedicated to strengthening and enriching the lives of individuals, families and community, both Jewish and non-Jewish, and helping them meet the challenges of daily life. They have a number of programs inlcuding Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities Services (IDDS), Shalom Bayit Program (Peace In the Home) for survivors of sexual and domestic violence, and  Ben Massell Dental Clinic which provides dental care at no cost to those who cannot afford it. Their Clinical Services Program offers individual and group counseling for children, teens, and families.Therapists are on most insurance panels and private pay and sliding scale options are available.Telehealth and in-person available. 

 

Mind, Body, Peace, LLC

Guneeta Singh is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in trauma-informed therapy for adults. She utilizes somatic experiencing and emotions focused therapy techniques and offers appointments in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu. Sliding fee scale available. 

 

​​​​​Patel Garcia Counseling & Wellness, LLC

Rital Patel is an experienced trauma therapist serving children, adolescents, and adults. Counseling sessions are available in person, outdoors, and online. She is LGBTQA+ affirming and BIPOC affirming and is a somatic experiencing practitioner (SEP) and registered play therapist (RPT). Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented healing modality for the treatment of trauma and stress disorders. She offers a sliding fee scale and offers counseling in English and Gujarati.

Research Institute for Counseling & Education (RICE)

RICE is a mental health practice offering individual, couples, and family counseling, with a focus on depth psychotherapy informed by spiritual, religious, and existential perspectives. They offer counseling for individuals, couples, and families in both Korean and English languages. Telehealth appointments available. 

 

Training and Counseling Center (TACC)

Nonprofit Community Counseling Center that offers individual and group counseling to children and adults with both in person and virtual appointments available. They offer a sliding fee scale and accept some insurance. They have a Mission Fund Grant to supplement your paid fee as needed.  They also offer an interfaith and social justice oriented Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program.

Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence

Free and confidential services for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. 24 hour hotline, safehouse, forensic medical examinations, counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, community-based advocacy, community education, supervised visitation and safe exchange program. 

 

Support for First Responders & Law Enforcement Families

Georgia First Responder PTSD Program (Ashley Wilson Act)

Provides financial aid for PTSD treatment for all eligible first responders in Georgia. Covers co-pays, out-of-network care, deductibles, and income loss assistance. Established under Georgia law effective Jan 1, 2025.

 

Georgia C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors)

A nonprofit offering peer support, counseling, scholarships, retreats, and assistance for families and coworkers of fallen officers. Georgia C.O.P.S. relies solely on fundraising, donations and sponsors that enable us to provide financial assistance to first year surviving family members to attend National Police Week in Washington, DC to pay tribute and honor their deceased officer. Through hands-on programs, peer support, trainings, conferences, scholarships and counseling, C.O.P.S. helps surviving family members and co-workers get through the process of grief and coping for as long as they feel a need.

 

Safe Call Now 

24/7 confidential helpline staffed by first responders for first responders and their family members. They can assist with treatment options for responders who are suffering from mental health, substance abuse and other personal issues.

 

Fire/EMS Helpline/ Share the Load

Program run the the National Volunteer Fire Council. They have a help line, text-based help service, and have also collected a list of many good resources for people looking for help and support.

 

Copline (Law Enforcement Only)

Confidential helpline for members of US law enforcement. Find additional help and resources on their website.
